A NEW EXHIBITION
Beaches, Boundaries and Belonging in the South Bay
Join us at the Hermosa Beach Museum for our latest rotating exhibit.
From the “Aristocrat of the California Beaches” to the originator of the Ironman, Hermosa and the South Bay have been home to a vast array of residents with claims to local status. The Hermosa Beach Museum’s next rotating exhibit, Beaches, Boundaries, and Belonging in the South Bay, draws on Chamber of Commerce pamphlets through the decades, local newspapers, and oral histories to explore how the beach community defined itself in its formative years between 1920 and 1970. While California holds a place in the public imagination as a surfers’ paradise, its coast has housed diverse – and often competing – visions of the present and future over the twentieth century.
EXHIBITION DATES:
Opening Event on Thursday October 23 at 6 PM
Exhibit closing January 2026
