Going to the Movies:
The Story of the Bijou Theater
-An Online Exhibition-
The Bijou Theater, presently Chase Bank, was built in 1923 for the up and coming city of Hermosa Beach. This exhibit is designed to engage, enlighten, and stimulate curiosity about this theater and the cinema history of one of South Bay’s last surviving movie palaces. Community members are invited to explore Hermosa’s past through one of the oldest buildings in Hermosa and to engage with the larger context of the early history of Hermosa Beach. The exhibit features numerous objects, photos, and archival materials from the Hermosa Beach Museum to take a look at its evolution from the Metropolitan to the Bijou Theater, while highlighting the people involved, and the stories of people's experience at the theater.
