Going to the Movies:

The Story of the Bijou Theater

-Now Open at the Hermosa Beach Museum -

During your next visit to our Museum, be sure to check out our new exhibition Going to the Movies: The Story of the Bijou Theater. This exhibit is designed to engage, enlighten, and stimulate curiosity about the theater and the cinema history of one of South Bay’s last surviving movie palaces. Community members are invited to explore Hermosa’s past through one of the oldest buildings in Hermosa, to engage with the larger context of the early history of Hermosa Beach. The exhibit will feature numerous objects from throughout its evolution from the Metropolitan to the Bijou Theater while highlighting the people involved, and the stories of people's experience at the theater.

This exhibition will be open through the fall of 2020.

This Exhibition is organized by the staff of the Hermosa Beach Historical Society & Museum with material from the Hermosa Beach Collections and Archives.

You can also view elements of this exhibition virtually through our online exhibition, made available as a resource for the community in response to COVID-19.
