The Hermosa Beach Historical Society was founded in 1987 with the mission to acquire, preserve, and interpret historical memorabilia and other materials pertaining to the history of the City of Hermosa Beach. The collection is extended to the public as a source of delight, illumination, and lifelong learning.
The Museum's collection of approximately 3500 items includes photographs, postcards, newspapers, prints, ephemera and three dimensional materials. The Museum uses its collection for exhibitions, educational programs, study and research, loans and reproduction. Features include early Gabriellino Indian fish hooks, documents and artifacts relating to the early development of the City, and a large collection of beach culture material including surfboards, paddle boards, aquaplane boards, and more. The Museum also hosts the Beach Volleyball Hall of Fame.
